GLID invites volunteers to Mitch & Alicia's home located at 6483 327TH LN NW, Princeton, MN.
Plan to bring gloves, small or large shovels you have. Bring plenty to drink and eat for the day.
This hands-on experience will prepare you to install and maintain the same or similar erosion control strategies on Green Lake.
Sheila, Restoration Consultant, will go-over reasons for this technique, basic bioengineering and 1, 2, 3 year and beyond maintenance. Native plants are said to; "sleep, creep & then leap!" in this long-term restoration process.

Precipitation Monitoring- Weather affects everyone.  Citizens in Isanti County volunteer to be precipitation monitors. Their weather observations are reported to the Department of Natural Resources State Climatology Office. This information is used to produce weekly precipitation maps of both rain and snow. If you are interested in becoming an official weather observer contact Linda Gehrking - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

You can check rainfall totals by visiting the Minnesota State Climatology office website.  Use the drop-down box to select Isanti County.

MN Pollution Control Agency Volunteer Water Monitoring- Another way people can volunteer is to become a citizen water monitor for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.  Volunteers measure lake and stream water clarity. The data collected is used to make decisions on restoration projects. You can find out more and sign up on their website: https://www.pca.state.mn.us/water/citizen-water-monitoring

 Adopt a storm Drain
Adopt-a-Drain- Citizens anywhere can adopt a storm drain. Volunteers should clean their storm drain off twice a month and have the opportunity to name it. This work helps keep pollutants out of our waterways. If you are interested in adopting a drain you can go to: https://mn.adopt-a-drain.org/

storm drain stencil 2
Storm Drain Stenciling- The Isanti SWCD has storm drain stencils and paint available for groups to borrow. The stencils spread awareness about the connection of storm drains to our waterways. Please contact Lydia Godfrey at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you would like to borrow them. Notice is needed before borrowing stencils, so staff can ensure the materials are ready and to gather maps of drains.
